Standard for Skim Coat Mortar
TIS 3056-2563 (2020) is a standard for skim coat mortar used to refine and smooth concrete and masonry wall surfaces prior to painting, wallpaper installation, or other decorative finishes. It is designed to repair and conceal common surface imperfections such as uneven surfaces, visible sand particles, pinholes, and hairline cracks. With its ability to be applied in thinner layers than conventional plaster, skim coat mortar helps improve surface smoothness and enhances the quality of subsequent finishing works. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications in new construction as well as renovation and repair projects.
Products certified under this standard must pass both general characteristic and physical property tests in accordance with the requirements of the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI). These include setting time, water retention, compressive strength, and adhesive strength. Such testing ensures that the product can be applied effectively, provide a smooth and uniform surface finish, and consistently deliver quality that meets established industrial standards.
Skim coat mortars complying with TIS 3056-2563 (2020) serve as an assurance of product quality and reliability. They are suitable for use as a surface-refinement layer prior to final decoration, helping improve the performance and appearance of paint systems and wall finishes. In addition, they help minimize defects caused by uneven substrates and contribute to achieving high-quality construction and finishing work in accordance with recognized industry standards.
