What is an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)?
An EPD is a Type III environmental label (based on ISO 14025 standards) that provides transparent and quantified data regarding a product's environmental impact throughout its entire life cycle. Through a rigorous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)—from raw material extraction and manufacturing to usage and final disposal—the EPD serves as an "Environmental Nutrition Label," disclosing key indicators such as:
GWP (Global Warming Potential): Impact on global warming/carbon footprint.
ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential): Impact on the depletion of the ozone layer.
AP (Acidification Potential): Potential to cause acid rain or soil/water acidification.
EP (Eutrophication Potential): Potential for nutrient enrichment in water bodies (leading to algae blooms).
POCP (Photochemical Ozone Creation Potential): Potential for the creation of ground-level smog.
ADP-f (Abiotic Depletion Potential for Fossil Fuels): Depletion of non-renewable fossil fuel energy resources.
ADP-e (Abiotic Depletion Potential for Elements): Depletion of non-renewable mineral resources.
