LEED Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

LEED is a criteria to assess green building originated in USA by US Green Building Council (USGBC)

LEED is another standard in construction and property industries during this period of environmental concern, which is recognized for inspection and assessment, with the objective to increase building resource efficiency and reduce negative environmental impact and health of building residences and users. In the past many world famous architectures prioritize LEED including many leading buildings in Thailand are certified by LEED standard.

LEED criteria for assessment (version 4) features

  1. Location and Transportation – reducing personal vehicles as well as efficient car park management.
  2. Sustainable Site – Aiming to generate low local impacts, increase open green space, reduce flood prone area, reduce urban heat island effect, and reduce light pollution.
  3. Water Efficiency – Water efficiency includes the reduction of overall building water needs such as gardening work and sanitary needs to minimum.
  4. Energy and Atmosphere – This includes the reduction of building energy needs, promotion of renewable energy, energy usage measurement, non-CFC cooling system as CFC causes ozone layer depletion, and the procurement of electricity from sustainable renewable source.
  5. Material and Resources – The fine selection of materials and resources in construction is to prepare the area for sorting waste for recycling, to repurpose building or elements or parts of building, to reduce waste from construction process, to use recycled materials, to use local sourcing materials, to use the rapidly renewable wood and only woods with the certified sources that has confirmed forestation.
  6. Indoor Environmental Quality – is to control indoor climate for wellbeing and good health of residences by considering on ventilation, air pollution management during construction and later building usage, choosing low VOCs materials, promoting user-control wellbeing, using natural ambient light and design that allow viewing to outside atmosphere including potential mold prevention.
  7. Innovation Design – is to promote design building with new concept, and to initiate new method or criteria to create sustainable building, which can be achieved by using new method or products that are not listed into new standard including achieving more than the set criteria, and having LEED AP as a team member.
  8. Regional Priority – Many environmental problems are local or spatial, so in order to stimulate construction projects to realize and focus on local environmental issues to be top priority concerns.

Jorakay’s products all pass VOC criteria according to LEED’s Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) for both VOC emission and VOC contents from the well qualified EUROFIN laboratory
